School Is In Session
August 7th, 2007 categories: Tucson News & Events
Tucson area schools had their first start day today with Sunnyside, Sahuarita, and Vail School Districts. What does this mean to motorists? Slow down, the life you save may be a child’s. Tucson Police Department takes these violations seriously, as does the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. When the sign says “No Passing” they mean no passing. If the car in the lane next to you is going 10 MPH and you are driving 15 MPH…oops…ticket time.
Sgt. Coultas, the PCSO Traffic Unit Supervisor, and Sgt. Hanna, the PCSO Motors Unit Supervisor, both commented that the Pima County Sherrif’s Motors Units will be out aggressively enforcing the school zones 15 MPH speed limit and No Passing. Sgt. Coultas stated that fines, just for speeding in a school zone, can range from $140 to $242. Add add another violation to that and cha-ching. So slow down and protect our communities children, their parents, teachers and crossing guards.
Sgt. Callan of TPD stated that the Tucson Police Department will be just as aggressive. She stated that on Wednesday August 8th at 10:00 AM TPD will be demonstrating for the media at the Hardesty substation on 22nd Street and Alvernon the new photo radar van that will photograph violators in school zones. So drivers beware, just because you don’t see a Police Car that doesn’t mean you are safe. Slow down and make it safe for everyone else.

The Naked Facts About Tucsons Clothing Optional Resort
August 5th, 2007 categories: Tucson News & Events
A client contacted me asking about Mira Vista Resort. I checked into it for them. Sure enough Mira Vista Resort is a clothing optional resort. I remember attending a very nice wedding for our oldest son’s friend at Mira Vista some months back. The portion of the resort we saw was impressive. There wasn’t a clue.
Ocasionally my wife and I like to spend the weekend at the hotel or resort where we attend weddings just to get away for a day or two. For some reason, this was not one of those occasions. Imagine our surprise the next morning had we decided to stay the entire weekend. I can see us asking in the future, “Oh, by the way you don’t happen to be a clothing optional resort are you?”
On their home page Mira Vista has a free day pass. Someone is probably thinking, “hmmmm.” Personally, not my cup of tea. But there are those less conservative then me. No judgment from me. Just as there are people who jump out of a perfectly good airplanes. Not for me. You can do it if you like.
From looking at their website, Mira Vista has a lot of interesting history. Founded in 1852 as a stage coach stop between St. Louis and San Francisco. During the 1930’s it was a dude ranch. In the 1980’s the ranch supported sheltering abused women. Most likely prior to clothing optional. Sold in 1997 the property went through $1,000,000 in renovation to include an Old West Town.
Names associated with the facility over the years are Geronimo, John Wayne, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Suzanne Somers and many others. One quote from the website is very interesting,
“As you walk the grounds and hear the wind whisper, you cannot help but wonder if ancient souls are secretly telling their stories through the sounds, sights, and smells. Take it all in and you will see that this truly is sacred land.”
Prices are reasonable from $90 to $130 a night. So, if you are daring and wanted to know, now you know where it is. For a free day pass you will need to go to their website. It’s on the home page. Just print and go.

Augustfest Elgin Style
July 25th, 2007 categories: Tucson News & Events
If you have never been to Elgin you’re missing a piece of heaven. Every year the wineries in Elgin have the Augustfest to bring the new harvest. Just 40 minutes southeast of Tucson on Highway 83.
For $10 you can’t beat the treat you will have the weekend of August 4th and 5th. My wife and I have been there in the past. The Arizona wines are fantastic, as are the prices. You will love the trip to Elgin as well as the festivities. It’s a great way to spend a day. This is an event you won’t want to miss.

Water Fun In The Desert
July 14th, 2007 categories: Tucson News & Events
Tucson has the fortune of having a huge water park north of town known as Breakers Water Park. The wave machine to the pool that could hold several Olympic size pools was great for the grandson. We hadn’t
been there in years. Since the boys, now 25 and 29, were little babies. If you want to beat the desert heat, enjoy Breakers Water Park.
