Jim and Linda Livengood Toys For Tots Golf Tournament

Jim and Linda LivengoodJoin Jim and Linda Livengood in helping lots of children have a good Christmas while enjoying a round of golf. They have raised 10’s of thousands of dollars for this needy cause over the past seven years. As the University of Arizona Athletic Director since 1994, Jim has lead a successful campaign to bring the U of A national recognition. Jim and Linda’s campaign to support our US Marines in making Christmas more enjoyable for children of need is commendable.

As the eighth annual tournament, this promises to be more fun than previous tournaments. The previous seven years saw players enjoy the Forty Niners Golf Course, San Ignacio Golf course, and for the past five years the Arizona National Golf Course; home of the Wildcat Men and Women’s golf teams. Teams with famous alumni like Ana Sorenstein, Jim Furyk, and Lorena Ochoa. Enjoy the challenge of one of Tucson’s greatest mountain courses. Enjoy the spectacular views of the valley before you. If you have never played this course, you are in for a thrill.

Future Jack Nicklaus Course For Tucson and Marana

Dove Mountain Map copyIn early 2007 Jack Nicklaus confirmed that Nicklaus Design was building a new Jack Nicklaus design golf course in Dove Mountain. Scheduled for completion in time for the 2009 Accenture Match Play Championship. The 2008 Accenture Match Play Championship will be held again on the Picture 022same venue as the  2007 Accenture Match Play Championship at the Gallery South Course. For those who attended, the tournament was a great event.

A formal announcement is expected some time in September concerning the new course. As of now I can tell you that there will be an initial 27 holes to the course with an additional 9 holes planned shortly after completion. Bringing the entire project up to 36 holes for two thrilling 18 hole courses. Ground work has begun on the club house, which will most likely be unmatched.

Jack Nicklaus Designed Golf Course Tucson Under ConstructionThe planned length of the course is approximately 7,800 yard from the Professionals tees. A total of 5 to 6 tees for each hole is on the drawing board to make it more enjoyable for the less than professional player. The scheduled completion date is planned to insure use of the new course for the 2009 tournament. From what I have seen so far, this is going to be a course to envy. The new course should include luxury homes for great living in a great community.

Patriot Day For Fallen Heroes

This is your chance to pay homage to Fallen Heroes and their families.

Tucson Golf Fallen HeroesWhile reading the August 2007 edition of Golf Digest I came across a story on page 83 of an F-16 pilot, Dan Rooney, who has a dream and a challenge for all us golfers. A dream to support families of fallen and injured Heroes. On September 1, 2007, Patriot Day, Capt. Rooney is asking golfers all over the United States to play golf and pay an extra dollar for green fees to donate to Fallen Heroes Foundation

The mission statement of the foundation

“Provide financial and emotional support to the families of Fallen or injured American Servicemen and women. Provide financial aid for educating the children and spouses of our Fallen or wounded soldiers. Form synergistic alliances with fellow non-profits and government agencies that are providing assistance to our military families.”

Noonansays it all. You can make donations to the foundation on line as well. I did. My wife made it clear that I will be playing on September 1st. Gotta love her and her support. Tell a friend, invite a vet. Have a memorable day. Let’s all support Captain Rooney for an honorable and much needed cause.

Capt. Rooney, salute to you sir for a job well done.
