What Tiger Woods and Tucson Have In Common
February 25th, 2008 categories: Tucson Golf Community, Tucson Golf Events
What could Tiger Woods and Tucson possibly have in common? Both like the Accenture Match Play Championship. Tucson for the pleasure of seeing the top players play golf in person. Tiger for winning the 2008 Accenture Match Play Championship. Tucson
has a number of golf courses to accommodate players of every level. Even Tiger would find some of the courses, especially the desert courses, challenging. The Pines in Marana is great course for finesse and control. Imagine playing golf in an old rock quarry. Some of the elevation shots require more than usual consideration. A lot of the holes require on target shots or you will never see your golf ball again. Starr Pass is another a prime example for target shooting. A great mountain course with challenging shots. Accuracy and control is the key on this course.
Tucson has a wealth of golf communities to compliment its many golf courses. Some are private course, some semi-private. Many are open to the public. Tucson has a love for golf as anyone can tell. The PGA has been no stranger to Tucson. In the past we have supported the Tucson Chrysler Classic and the Welch’s LPGA Tournament. Players like Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer have graced some of the courses of Tucson. It was natural that the Accenture Match Play Championship come to Tucson. Tiger loves golf, Tucson loves golf. Tucson loves Tiger, we hope Tiger loves Tucson.
Visit some of the golf communities throughout Tucson and you will see what Tucson has to offer golfers.

What Does Golf and Rodeo Have In Common In Tucson
February 14th, 2008 categories: Tucson Golf Events, Tucson News & Events
February is a big month for the greater Tucson community. Thousands of visitors have been coming to Tucson from around the State of Arizona, Sonora, and many other areas. The Tucson Rodeo was an annual event before I moved to Tucson some 34 years ago.
Last year the Accenture Match Play Championship moved to Tucson. Replacing the PGA Chrysler Open. Tucson has been a host to the PGA since 1945. Welcoming players over the years like Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and now Tiger Woods.
Rodeo lovers flood the streets near the Rodeo grounds every year to watch the nations largest non-mechanized parade. When our boys were little we took them several times to see the horses and wagons go by. Newcomers to the community find lots of cowboy hats and boots to dress for the occasion. Many businesses allow employees to dress western for the multiple day event.
Having been to PGA Open events at Tucson National Golf Course, and then the Accenture Match Play last year I can say that the later is a much bigger event. The crowds around Ernie Els, Mike Weir, and Phil Michelson are huge. The crowd following Tiger Woods were unbelievable.
So what do these two events have in common? Both bring thousands of visitors to Tucson. Many for the first time. Many who see the advantages of the mild winters in the desert and who look to move here in the near and distant future. Both events help stimulate the local hospitality business and the local economy. Both the rodeo and the golf tour are welcomed by thousands of Tucsonians. So, welcome to Tucson and have fun. Don’t forget our other sights while you are here.

Fans Getting Ready For Accenture Match Play Championship 2008
December 15th, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Events
If you were in Tucson for the 2007 Accenture Match Play Championship you had the pleasure of seeing some great play. Like sitting next to the green
on the 360+ uphill 12th green and watching the pros land golf balls on and around the green. For my first PGA event with Tiger Woods, Phil Mikelson, Ernie Els and the like, it was interesting to see the massive crowds that would follow their favorite.
I remember during practice rounds standing behind the tee in what I thought was a safe spot to the side of where I felt the pros would tee, people crowding around me and Ian Poulter teeing up directly in front of me. The palo verde tree behind me allowed just so much room to back up, and no room to either side. The breeze off Ian Poulter’s driver across my face reinforced my feeling that I was closer than I wanted to be.
Thousands of golf fans came to Tucson to enjoy the play of PGA pros and what Tucson has to offer. From February 18th through the 24th, 2008 thousands of fans will enjoy the 2008 Accenture Match Play Championship Some will easily find hotels, some will not. For those looking for homes to rent VRBO.com Marana, Tucson, and Oro Valley are a great sources to find a variety of homes, town homes and condos to rent for the week.
For those looking for tickets early, my connection is Paul Arnaud (520) 548-3060. Please let Paul know how you found him. He has everything from individual tickets to corporate tickets. If you’re cutting it close and Paul can still order tickets, call me and we’ll arrange something to see if we can have your tickets waiting for you when you arrive to Tucson. The tickets I bought last year didn’t arrive until nearly a week before the event.
If you want to see some of Tucson’s available real estate while in town I’d be happy to serve. Everything from setting up computer generated searches, to showing you homes. After all, Wall Street Journal commented a few years back that Tucson is one of the top 20 cities in the world for home buyers looking for retiring, second, or vacation homes. Think about it no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no blizzards, no earth quakes, and so many good golf days that there is no need to play on a bad day year round.

One Great Golf Tournament
November 10th, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Events
If you missed the TAR (Tucson Association of Realtors) Golf Tournament to benefit Habitat for Humanity Tucson, you missed a great
tournament. I had the fortune to play the round with Cyd Bradford (my preferred Escrow Officer), Jack Moran (my Title Account Manager),
and Jim Kenny (El Conquistador Mortgage). I hadn’t seen Jim in nearly five years. It was great to see him again and spend the afternoon with him. I have to say, I do like his golf cart. Thank you Fidelity National Title Insurance Company.
When I pulled into the parking lot 45 minutes before the tournament I had to park in the overflow area. All eighteen holes were doubled up with A and B groups. The group before us started out slow. I just knew this was going to be a long day.
About halfway through the tournament I turned to Jack and asked, “Have you noticed, nobody holding us up in front, and nobody pushing us from behind.” Of all the tournaments I played in, this was the smoothest flow of play for golfers. From the time we teed up at our first tee to the time we picked up the last ball at the last hole, we had zero delays, with no pressure behind us.
The fairways and greens of the El Con Quistador Canada course were in great shape. Ready for Winter players. The greens proved true for Tucson, if in doubt the ball will roll, turn or favor the direction of downtown. Like a magnet pulling a steel marble. Jim and I had our Sky Caddies ready for those questionable distances. I found every foul shot I could muster to get them out of my system. Jack nailed some great distance on his drives. Sometimes to the desert. Cyd did great for having played only playing for six
months. She and her husband Dave are truly addicted. Playing every weekend, sometimes twice. Jim’s membership and knowledge of the course was a benefit. When he said to lay up, he meant it. It felt good to keep up with him on some drives. Jim’s a good golfer. He contributed more than his fair share to the team.
It was fun, relaxing and with a great group of golfers. I had to leave early to meet a client to write a contract. Cyd and Jack didn’t mind, since we will be opening escrow with Cyd. We’ll have to wait for their comments about the dinner. Maybe next year I’ll be able to hang around for the dinner. Thanks Jack, Thanks Cyd, Thanks Jim, I had a great time. If you missed this year’s event, make sure you show up for next years.
