Tucson Golf Course 2007 Overseed Schedule
September 18th, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Courses
The only lengthy interruption on Tucson area golf courses is the overseeding season in the fall. No blizzards, no shutting down for the winter, just plain old getting ready for a heavier season while many courses elsewhere are slowing down for the winter. The schedule…

Golfer Beware, Pusch Ridge El Con Quistador Golf Course Is No Push Over
September 11th, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Courses
Not to be confuses with the El Con Quistador or Canada Courses located a few miles away, Pusch Ridge El Con Quistador Golf Course may be a 9 hole course, but, don’t let it fool you. This is one tough course. It doesn’t get any easier the second round either. The fairways will mislead you, the greens are the biggest challenge, and trying to get even on the second nine holes for what happened on the first nine can easily slip into disaster. I can’t count how many times I have played this course. It hold challenge, frustration, and elation all in one course.
Keeping a cool head while playing this course, rather than trying to beat it, will definitely lower your score. The first hole is a 383 yard Par 4 dog leg left. From the tee box you are shooting to a fairway that is a good 20 feet below you. This is a definite draw or straight lay up fairway. The dog leg is closer than it looks only 178 yards to over run it. If you hit the far right side of the fairway, the hill comes into play to reach the green, requiring a fade. If you make it to the left of the fairway, its a fairly straight shot to the green. Once on the green be careful not to putt to hard to the west. I’ve seen top fuel dragsters take off slower than a ball that ends up down the slope with a tough up hill chip to get back.
The second hole is 281 yard Par 4 with an easy to reach elevated green to lie two. This is probably the easiest hole on the course. If you’re going to birdie, this is the hole.

El Rio Golf Course Rich In History
August 20th, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Courses
On Sunday my wife told me no Open Houses today, go play golf with your son and daughter-in-law. How many golfers envy me for such a wonderful wife? So we set out to El Rio Golf Course. Our son played his best game ever, our daughter-in-law played better than I’ve seen her play as well, and I had my worse score in 3 years. Plan a fade, and straight into the trees, plan straight and fade into the next fairway. Go figure. 75 yards out and on for a one putt. 20 yards out and over the green into the sand. Lesson learned, don’t lay off for a month and a half then go out to play without even hitting the driving range. Saturday morning practices I’ll see you this weekend. All said, two out of three for the day wasn’t bad. We managed to finish in 3 hours and 21 minutes.
Rumor has it that Tucson’s first grass golf course was offered to the public in 1929 as the El Rio Country Club. The official year of the El Rio Country Club was 1934. Operated ad a Country Club until 1968. El Rio Golf Course was home to the first Tucson Open in 1945, ending in as host for a national tournament in 1962. El Rio is a course rich with history.

Future Jack Nicklaus Course For Tucson and Marana
July 31st, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Courses, Tucson Golf Events
In early 2007 Jack Nicklaus confirmed that Nicklaus Design was building a new Jack Nicklaus design golf course in Dove Mountain. Scheduled for completion in time for the 2009 Accenture Match Play Championship. The 2008 Accenture Match Play Championship will be held again on the
same venue as the 2007 Accenture Match Play Championship at the Gallery South Course. For those who attended, the tournament was a great event.
A formal announcement is expected some time in September concerning the new course. As of now I can tell you that there will be an initial 27 holes to the course with an additional 9 holes planned shortly after completion. Bringing the entire project up to 36 holes for two thrilling 18 hole courses. Ground work has begun on the club house, which will most likely be unmatched.
The planned length of the course is approximately 7,800 yard from the Professionals tees. A total of 5 to 6 tees for each hole is on the drawing board to make it more enjoyable for the less than professional player. The scheduled completion date is planned to insure use of the new course for the 2009 tournament. From what I have seen so far, this is going to be a course to envy. The new course should include luxury homes for great living in a great community.

July 4th, 2007 categories: Tucson Golf Courses
Heritage Highlands Golf Course is nestled within the Heritage Highlands gated adult community as part of the Dove Mountain master community. This fairly forgiving golf course offers both pleasure and challenge. Enjoy the wild life as you play; javelina, coyote, quail, and rabbits. Even the driving
range is spectacular. Members of the Heritage Highland community can enjoy regularly scheduled play for both men and women of every level of ability. Thursdays are member only days. The rest of the week the course is open to the public.
