Everything Canadian Home Buyers Want To Know About Tucson Real Estate

With a name like Trudeau would you be surprised if I told you I am the grandson of a Canadian immigrant who spoke only French when he and his brother arrived in America? As a youth I Canadian Good Luck 5 and Pinbore the Canadian flag on nearly everything. Trips from Seattle to Vancouver, British Columbia were routine. I still carry $5 bill in my wallet for good luck, and cherish the lapel pin of the Canadian flag given to me as I crossed the border into BC on my last trip.

I am seeing and hearing about more and more Canadian buyers looking to buy a home in Tucson, Arizona. With winter coming on in the north, I can imagine that more and more Canadians will be looking for comfort in the Sonoran desert where blizzards are something you only see on television. So, what does Tucson have to offer?

Starr Pass Golf Resort 3The climate is great. This November day the high and low temperatures are projected to be 65 and 41 degrees respectively. Great day for a round of golf. To your right you will see a list of courses and GolfNow.com link to reserve your tee time. We enjoy saying, “There are too many good days in Tucson to play on a bad day.” There are dozens of golf courses to choose from.

If looking for a golf oriented community, the links to your left will guide you to all of them. If not looking for a golf community. We have lots of homes and condos in many communities, to include adult communities, ranging from in the $100,000 range to well over $1 million and everything in between. The average and median home price in Tucson are in the mid to low $200,000 range.

Tucson is close to the border of Mexico. Nogales is a tourist attraction to nearly everyone who visits Tucson.

For artists, Tubac and its art community is a great attraction.

Curious to see where John Wayne filmed some of his western movies. Old Tucson Studios will settle your curiosity.

Enjoy fine dining? North restaurant is a great place to start.

I once read in the Wall Street Journal a few years back that Tucson is one of the top 20 cities for second, vacation, and retirement homes. Things haven’t changed. Tucson is a great place to live. Whether wintering in a great community or looking for that final retirement home, Tucson is worth the look. Not to mention, that Canadian influence is more than welcome.

  1. Doug,

Great timing! “Buying season” for Canadian Snowbirds will be picking up soon, and we’ve seen a LOT more Canadians looking to buy property here in the States than ever before.

The reasons? Number one is easily the strength of the Canadian dollar (and relative weakness of the US dollar). Our Canadian clients are seeing a great perceived “discount” on American properties, with the Canadian dollar (CAD) now almost 17% stronger against USD than it was at the beginning of the year — from around .8576 on January 1st 2007 to around .9900 today, Dec 4th.

My company, HiFX, is a firm of currency specialists, and we help people with these transactions day in and day out. We specialize in getting individuals the best exchange rates possible, and we can help lock exchange rates for long periods of time, so if you see the rates get as high as 1.10 again (as they were a month ago), you can take advantage!

    Interesting stuff, Doug.

    Take care,

  2. That is so true about the Tucson region, you see I have been an agent for last five years. In these years, I have really understood the market. However, with the changing time I have also noted that it is not only just Canadian, who are buying properties in other regions, but many European and even Asians are investing in our territories. I think this some thing really good for the market, as it can actually increase the prices in time leading to another boom.
