What Do Golfers Want On A Website?
Trying to get information about golf courses can be a challenge in and of itself. Since all of my articles provide links for readers to get more information about golf courses around Tucson I have seen a variety of different levels of websites. The variety in sites spread out as much as the variety in golf courses.
Looking up some golf course sites is like teeing up in a 35 mph cross wind. You have no clue where you’ll end up. Once on the site it shouldn’t be full of hazards. The best example is Hilton El Con Quistador in Tucson. There are no course layouts to give golfers an idea of what to expect. Nice people at El Conquistador, but, the website does not support them.
So, what makes a good website for golfers? First, easy to find on the Internet. Second, information should be easy to find for someone who wants information to stand out. Three key points of information, course layout, tee times, and directions. Golfers want to know how to get to the course if they are flying in from out of town. They want to see what the course looks like. Finally, they want to be able to reserve tee time before leaving home.
Easy To Find Information
The best example I could find is Arizona National Golf Course in Tucson. Information is right there starring you in the face. The pull downs let golfers select the exact information they want. The Gallery in Tucson is another good example of course and hole by hole lay outs.
Course Lay Out
A good example is the site for Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. Its easy find. I like that it has the course layout where you can click on the holes for detailed information about fairway, hazard and green distance. The Sand Pines Golf Course in Florence, Oregon is similar to La Paloma’s site with an addition of an aerial depiction of each hole.
Tee Times
Hilton El Con Quistador in Tucson has the easiest means for reserving tee times on the Internet. Arizona National has easy information for tee times and rates. The downside is the ability to reserve via the Internet. I doubt anyone would be taking reservations at 8:00 AM New York time on the way out to catch a flight when it is 5:00 AM in Tucson.
Directions
The Grand Valley Golf Course in Eloy has a good map to bring in golfers from Tucson or Phoenix. Having a map with directions, especially from an airport or other identifiable location is helpful for golfers coming into town for business for a few days and who want to squeeze in a round or two.
If all else fails, just give me a quick e-mail and I’ll help you find and get on a course while you are in town.
