What Do Baby Boomers and Tucson Have In Common?

Real Estate Dog For A WalkMany baby boomers are looking at Tucson for retirement or for a winter home. So what makes Tucson real estate and living in Tucson better than other areas? For those moving to Tucson from larger cities like Chicago, New York City and Washington DC, the price of homes are considerably less. If moving from North Dakota, Kansas or Nebraska you may be in for a shock.

A 1,600 square foot home may cost anywhere between $160,000 to $300,000 depending on what geographical location you choose. Getting with a REALTOR® will prove helpful in determining what area will fit your needs. There are a variety of communities at your disposal. You can conduct a home search or search for a golf community to see what I mean.

Baby boomers will find adult communities, gated communities, golf communities, equestrian communities, master developments, condos, luxury homes, communities with private air fields, unsubdivided acreage, suburban communities, historical communities, and rural communities. If you like mountain views there’s the Santa Catalina, Rincon’s, Santa Rita’s, Tucson Mountains, and Tortolitas to choose from.

028_28For golfers, you can sneak in a round before the turkey is done in Novembers or try out your Christmas gift the day after. We have a saying here, “There are so many good days to play. You don’t need to play on a bad day.” There are enough courses to play every day of the month and not play the same course twice. Most are registered with Sky Caddie, so charge your batteries.

Mountain bikers and hikers have miles of trails to ride or hike through. For road warriors there is the El Tour de Tucson in November. If you like birds, there’s the Tucson Audubon Society. If you like drag racing you can run out to Southwestern International Raceway to see top fuelers test and tune for preparation for the Winter Nationals in Pomona in November and to start the season in February. In between there is a lot or outlaw and alcohol races to keep your adrenaline flowing.

Sonoran Desert MuseumAstronomers will enjoy the Flandrau Planetarium, Kitt Peak, or living in rural areas where the stars feel close enough to touch. Learn about the Sonoran Desert at the Sonoran Desert Museum. Imagine sitting on the sets of High Chaparral or where John Wayne shot numerous westerns at Old Tucson Studios. Visit Colossal Cave or Karchner Cavern to stalagmites and stalactites. If you like college basketball, the Arizona Wildcats are top contenders every year. Girls softball at the University of Arizona defending national champions. Tucson Electric Park is the home for professional spring training.

Don’t forget the weather. Leave or sell your winter clothes. Light jackets and many days for wearing shorts is the norm. Snow shovels are for decoration. Most natives of Tucson don’t even know what a sled is. Blizzards are something we watch on TV. You may see a little snow on the mountain tops, but, you have to get up before the sun melts it.

Baby boomers, as well as everybody else, are welcome in Tucson. If you’ve never been here, you don’t know what you are missing. If you need a golf buddy, it doesn’t take much to twist my arm. What do Baby Boomers and Tucson have in common? A zest for life and living.
