What Can Baby Boomers Expect In Tucson?

Tucson 007Tucson has a lot to offer Baby Boomers from every walk of life. From full living to assisted living. From condos to luxurious homes. From inner city living to rural living. You name, Tucson has it. From mountain biking to golf courses.

The only time you see a delay at the airport in Tucson is when there is foul weather at the other end of a flight. De-ice the windshield, what is that? Hurricanes? Isn’t that what we see on the news elsewhere? Earthquakes, oh yes that’s what they have in California. For golfers, we joke about having too many good days to play to have to play on a bad day. For hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians, there are miles of trails.

From the past for retirement communities Tucson had and still has Green Valley to the south. Developed in the 1960’s with the Traditionalists in mind. Quiet adult communities with neighbors watching neighbors, shuffle board, bingo, and no children. Many older smaller homes where the average age is around 72. Over the years several golf courses have been developed in Green Valley. As well as more active adult communities.

A few miles away to the east is the Quail Creek master community with modern amenities and larger homes. Primarily a golf community, Quail Creek has its own restaurant overlooking a water hazard next to the fairway. Rancho Sahuarita between Green Valley and Tucson even has an adult community.

To the northwest is Saddlebrook which started out as a Traditionalist retirement community with newer homes developed around a golf course. A few miles away in Rancho Vistoso is Sun City Vistoso. Close to the new Northwest Hospital. Travel down Tangerine Road to the west and you will cross Dove Mountain master Community is Heritage Highlands. Down I-10 in the Continental Ranch Master Community is Continental Ranch Sunflower, a Dell Web community.

Golf Communities

IMG_0671There are numerous golf communities, in the northwest for under $300,000 like Autumn Hills, Canada Hills, Heritage Highlands, Sun City Vistoso, and Villages of La Canada. For $300,000 to $500,000 there are communities like Canada Hills, Carmel Pointe, Casas de Oro, Casas del Oro Norte, El Con Quistador Resort, Heritage Highlands, and Fairway Heights Tucson National.

For homes between $500,000 to $1,000,000 the northwest holds The Gallery Cottages, Canada Hills, Heritage Highlands, Oro Valley Estates, and Rancho Vistoso. For those exclusively luxury golf communities with home over $1,000,000 there are Canyon Pass at Dove Mountain, Dos Lagos at Dove Mountain, The Gallery, Stone Canyon, and Tucson National.

On the west, close to down town Tucson, is Starr Pass with homes from $300,000 to over a million. In the northeast is Forty Niners Country Club, and Sabino Springs.

In Green Valley there are Canada Hills, Quail Creek, Canoa Ridge, Canoa Vistas, De Anza Links, Tubac, and several others.

Sites and Attractions

Remember High Chaparral? Visit the Old Tucson Studios where Blue and Big John  were created for the screen. A few miles to the west is the Sonoran Desert Museum where animals live in an environment that replicates their natural habitat. On the southwest is San Xavier Mission, far southwest is the Kitt Peak observatory. South of IMG_1145Tucson is Tubac Golf Resort and artist community. Care to spend a day in Mexico, drive south to Nogales. Want to cool off for the day, drive up to Mount Lemon. Enjoy vineyards and local wineries, take a trip to Elgin. Don’t forget Colossal Cave and Kartchner Cavern. After the Cavern visit Tombstone and the site of the OK Corral shoot out.

If you like entertainment, there is the Fox Theater where Dillinger was captured outside its doors. The Ava Theater at the Casino hold concerts with every type of entertainer. The TCC has home shows, Broadway musicals, and other events. A few blocks away is the Opera Theater. Every other Saturday there are car shows at Little Anthony’s with everything from Model A’s to classic and custom muscle cars. While there visit the Gaslight Theater for a good laugh at a classic like Phantom of the Opera with 50’s style music.

From the Tucson Airport you are a few hours from San Diego, San Francisco, or anywhere you want to visit. More and more baby boomers are finding Tucson as a great place to retire and begin living. Join the rest of the baby boomers who are enjoying life in some of southern Arizona’s great communities. Now is a good time to buy while prices are at or near the lowest buyers will see. Why wait for prices to start going up? Why wait for the winter cold to hit? If you’ve never been to Tucson, you don’t know what you are missing.

  1. Tucson is certainly the ideal choice for those looking to lead simple and carefree retired life. Besides the health facilities offered by the Tucson Medical center is counted among the best. I have had enough of the city and so retiring to Tucson was a good choice for me. But getting just what I wanted seemed little difficult, however, once I started the search on the net, I literally felt flooded with offers. I found a broker who took me around. I made a splendid deal. I must say after moving to Tucson my health has really improved. Besides it is the best place for golfing.
