School Is In Session
Tucson area schools had their first start day today with Sunnyside, Sahuarita, and Vail School Districts. What does this mean to motorists? Slow down, the life you save may be a child’s. Tucson Police Department takes these violations seriously, as does the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. When the sign says “No Passing” they mean no passing. If the car in the lane next to you is going 10 MPH and you are driving 15 MPH…oops…ticket time.
Sgt. Coultas, the PCSO Traffic Unit Supervisor, and Sgt. Hanna, the PCSO Motors Unit Supervisor, both commented that the Pima County Sherrif’s Motors Units will be out aggressively enforcing the school zones 15 MPH speed limit and No Passing. Sgt. Coultas stated that fines, just for speeding in a school zone, can range from $140 to $242. Add add another violation to that and cha-ching. So slow down and protect our communities children, their parents, teachers and crossing guards.
Sgt. Callan of TPD stated that the Tucson Police Department will be just as aggressive. She stated that on Wednesday August 8th at 10:00 AM TPD will be demonstrating for the media at the Hardesty substation on 22nd Street and Alvernon the new photo radar van that will photograph violators in school zones. So drivers beware, just because you don’t see a Police Car that doesn’t mean you are safe. Slow down and make it safe for everyone else.

Please let us all be responsible drivers especially in the school zones. I sometimes wonder if people understand what they SEE and READ: 15MPH/NO PASSING. Thanks, Doug.
