Top 7 Characteristics Your Realtor Needs
Top 7 Characteristics Your Realtor Needs:
1. Honesty – When interviewing a Real Estate Agent look for honesty. Is the Agent answering your questions to apiece you or are they telling the truth. If each Realtor® comes in with a price higher than the previous, are they just trying to get on your good side to list your home? Be suspicious of those who promise too much. Can they really deliver what they say.
2. Strength – How strong is the Agent when you put out objections. If the Agent crumples under pressure this could be a good indicator of weakness during the negotiations between you and a buyer. A balanced level of strength to handle objections with empathetic understanding is ideal. Your Realtor® should have the ability to negotiate a win-win situation.
3. Personality - Someone that you as a Seller or Buyer can have rapport with. Depending on your personal style, you may feel most comfortable with someone who is laid back or someone who is more assertive and direct. Everyone has s different personality trait. Matching your traits to that of your Realtor® is important. Small disagreements or conflict in the initial interview will exacerbate over time. Its disaster waiting to happen.
4. Listener - If you don’t feel as if you’re being heard during the first interview, it’s doubtful things will get any better later. There a four types of listeners: 1) empathetic listener who listens closely to what you have to say; 2) the one who is listening in anticipation of what to respond; 3) the listener who knows what you are going to say before you say it; and 4) the listener who can’t wait for the other person to stop talking. We all perceive ourselves as empathetic listeners. A Realtor® who can repeat back to you what you are feeling is that empathetic listener that you need.
5. Star, eager beginner, or in between - The star whose names you seem to see on every street corner may have little direct interaction with clients. You may think that you are hiring that person, but, in reality you are getting a team member to work with. Relationship with the Realtor® or team member is critical whether buying or selling a home. If as a seller numbers are what you want then a star may be ideal. If you want a closer interaction with the star, a non-star may be better suited for your needs. A Realtor® who works with a large company can be vital since he or she has opportunity to discuss you property or home search needs with colleagues. Not to mention name recognition, branding, for that company.
6. Committed - Is the Realtor® a full time Realtor®? There are a lot of part time Realtors who do a good job. The full time Realtor® is committed to real estate and only real estate. A full time Realtor® doesn’t have other income to fall back on. What they earn depends on your satisfaction. If your Realtor is willing to commit his or her time to real estate they should be available, current in training, knowledgeable about local communities, and provide a higher level of service. A part time Realtor® has to work real estate around his or her primary job.
7. Experience - As a seller or buyer experience can be an important ingredient. Some Realtors learn fast and do a great job. Some Realtors® have been practicing bad habits for several years. A Realtor® who has been in the business for years is expected to have the knowledge and expertise to insure satisfaction. Those who are starting out are eager to please and will work hard to earn your appreciation. They may have more drive than someone who has been working real estate for 20 years. Like athletes or any business, Realtors® have peak years when they are very good at what they do. Some continue a high level of service into twilight years. Some become complacent. Look for the Realtor who has a good mix of drive and experience.
